The object of the whole artistic research is the human body, interpreted as “interactive and connective architecture between the self and the universe, container of questions and doubts, visible form and tangible matter of human’s invisible and intangible substances, emotions and conscience “.

In the sculptural works (more precisely “wire sculpture”, handmade figures realized with copper capillary tubes or designed and then produced with a 3D printer in plastic material), the research on the human body is carried out through an artistic discipline that can be defined as “emotional physiognomy”.
If the pseudoscientific discipline of physiognomy aimed to deduce the psychological and moral characters from the physical appearance of a person and from the expressions on his face, “emotional physiognomy” is, instead, the study of the signs produced by emotions on the human body, testimony of an inner spirituality.
The experienced emotions produce feelings and the latter the expressive signs, which trigger a process of transfiguration also of the physical forms imposed by genetics.
Revealing these signs, detectable perhaps only through artistic intuition, is a testimony of the relationship between material life and consciousness, in short, the photographic rendering of “the human soul”.

In the most recent works, two-dimensional works made in watercolour, Bonzanos expands his research also based on recent discoveries in the field of neuroscience. The biological body is therefore analyzed as a place for the formation of consciousness as well as an organism participant in cognitive activity, through a process activated by sensory experiences and the resulting emotions and feelings. Emotions and feelings are a product of the regulation of life which is based on the principle of homeostasis, that is, the search for that condition of balance necessary for the reproduction of the species.

Through the recognition of pain and well-being, emotions and feelings activate cognitive processes which have the sole purpose of planning actions aimed at reaching homeostasis.

Neuroscientist Antonio Damasio argues that all ideas, actions and ultimately all forms of human culture and society have been produced under the motivational drive of emotions and feelings.

Through the artistic imagination, Bonzanos identifies and studies the paths of sensory perceptions that lead to the formation of emotions and feelings and the resulting physical and mental changes; Through this study some of the implications that this entails in terms of individual and collective conscience are highlighted, as well as on the possible past, present and future evolutionary paths of the human species.
The body is, therefore, the object of the investigation, on the one hand for reflections on the mystery of one’s own existence, on the other, to understand the conscious and “unconscious” changes of a society, certainly posthuman, perhaps directed towards a transhuman evolution, where the sustainable coexistence is the most urgent issue to be addressed for the survival on a single planet of different societies and different forms of life.
